Program Note
This work features a dialogue between two characters. One is quite austere, delivering her story in short, sincere messages. The other is chipper, allowing her story to unfold in a stream of zany delight. The two attempt a conversation, but neither knows how to respond to the seemingly foreign personality of the other. The one phrase they both understand is ki-ka-ko, a child-like babble with no inherent meaning. This piece to me is about the playful enjoyment of good conversation. Anyone can participate, regardless of differences.
