Cobblestone Moss (2019)

for brass quintet [ca. 22 minutes]

Program Note

This work is drawn from the impressions of two stone walkways in Greenwich, Connecticut and in Le Mans, France; each covered with lush moss and surrounded with memories of loss. Often, our greatest demons aren’t some external force, but a voice calling from the depths of one’s soul. Fear plays the role of villain in my life. Fear of failure, fear of facing my own limitations, fear of the state of the world, fear of losing someone I care for, fear of seeing friends and family in pain…fear of the human condition. A hero is one who can face these trying thoughts and still press onward to make a positive impact on their community.
